Cox Pharmacy Information

We at Cox Pharmacy would like to first say thank you for taking the time to check out our web site. This site was developed to provide our customers and their various healthcare providers with information about our many services and products.

Brief History

Cox Pharmacy, which was once known as Crew Brother’s Drug Store, has a very rich history of serving the people of Tahlequah and the surrounding communities for well over 100 years. In fact, records indicate that drugs where sold from a log cabin in the original downtown location as early as 1867.

At the heart of the Cherokee Nation, Crew Drug was originally located on Tahlequah’s Historic Town Square at the corner of Main and Delaware streets. Through the years the drug store changed hands a few times, but each new owner continued to set the standard for friendly, honest and personalized service. Crew Drug not only became a well-known landmark, but the residents of the Tahlequah area grew to trust the old-fashioned drug store values inherent in the name.

In 1971, Rex Cox and Sue Cox purchased the store and changed the name to Cox Drug. Although the name had changed, the community quickly realized the Cox family remained committed to the original formula of personalized neighborhood service. In 1985, the Cox family relocated the business to a brand new building, which is its current location at 1301 East Downing Street. The new location was chosen due to its close proximity to doctors’ professional offices, the City Hospital and Hastings Indian Hospital.

Today

In 1998, Cox Pharmacy was purchased by David and Jan Morris. Early on, the Morris family set out to emulate the traditional old-fashioned drug store values by simply getting to know their customers and their families. Their aim has been to combine this personalized touch with the most advanced healthcare products and services. In an age when mom and pop pharmacies struggle to survive, Cox Pharmacy has thrived and grown.

In July of 2004 we opened another store in Keys, Oklahoma. Keys is located 10 miles south of Tahlequah off the corner of Highway 82 & Indian Road. Cox Pharmacy Keys is positioned to provide the same level of service for the entire Lake Tenkiller area, as found at our location in Tahlequah.

About US

Still Your Neighborhood Drug Store
With the increase of chain drug stores and mail order pharmacies the once familiar “neighborhood” pharmacy is getting harder to find these days. Unlike these impersonal corporations, you can rely on Cox Pharmacy to provide the same style of old fashioned values and service that has been a tradition for over 100 years. As your neighborhood pharmacy, we continue to strive to meet and go beyond your expectations and needs. We know that you have a choice when filling your pharmaceutical needs and we appreciate the loyalty of our customers.

Overview
Cox Pharmacy is a full service, independent family pharmacy committed to providing the best possible service, highest quality products and specialized pharmaceutical health care for both our customers/patients and fellow health care professionals. As a result we have diversified to provide a wide range of health and wellness products, specialty prescription compounding and cutting-edge patient care services.

It is our goal to provide solutions to fulfill any prescription need no matter how complex. In 1999 Cox Pharmacy became the first in the area to build an on-site state-of-the-art compounding laboratory. As a professional compounding pharmacy, we can provide medicines tailored to a patient's specific needs and prepared to the doctor's exact specifications. That is why many of our customers, including a great many of the medical professionals, consider us to be the best pharmacy in the Tahlequah area.

As part of the patient’s health care team, the staff at Cox Pharmacy believes we have a responsibility to our patients that extends beyond simply supplying medications. We take this responsibility seriously and pursue a more active role in helping patients achieve and maintain good health. This may take the form of simply spending a few minutes with the patient at the time of dispensing or possibly necessitate a health screening such as cholesterol or glucose testing. We also offer disease state management and one on one private consultation services. Whatever the situation me be, our highly skilled and caring staff of pharmacists, technicians, nurses and customer care assistants are committed to helping patients learn more about their health so that they may lead happier, healthy lives.

Traditional Prescription Services
Cox Pharmacy maintains the most extensive stock of medications in the Tahlequah area. We also stock many hard to find medications and our pharmacists are familiar with their administration and side effects. In the event that it is necessary to special order a medication for a patient, we are normally able to obtain the medication on the next business day. Cox Pharmacy features the most modern computers, software and prescription filling devices available to date. A computerized prescription system gives us the ability to screen for drug interactions, generate patient information leaflets and medical expense summaries, as well as process our patients insurance quickly online through the Internet.

Cox Pharmacy is one of a handful of pharmacies across the nation that features a state-of-the-art automated robotic prescription filling system. This system has many safety features that ensure accurate medication filling, tracking and dispensing. It performs the time consuming and tedious tasks of counting pills, filling vials, and labeling prescriptions, using advanced robotics and automation. Bar code scanning is used throughout the system to assure that the correct drug is given to the patient. The ScriptPro machine helps reduce our customers wait time and reduce the human error involved in labeling and filling prescriptions. Cox Pharmacy continually invests in this type of technology to help ensure prescriptions are filled accurately and efficiently. And the time we save means our pharmacists have more time to answer questions and counsel our customers.

Customer Service
Unlike high volume prescription mills we still offer patient care, drug information and sound advice. We believe this attention to customer service is what clearly separates us from our competition and why we have so many loyal customers. The pharmacists are always available to the patrons in the store to answer any and all questions. You’re not just a number to us. We take great pride in knowing our customers by name and take the time to listen and understand their needs. We even have a private consultation room that is available to discuss your specific personal needs and concerns.

Community Service
Cox Pharmacy is also very involved in the community. Being a hometown pharmacy we feel that it is important to give back to the area that supports us. We offer free health screenings, education seminars, and also participate in local charity events such as Relay for Life.

Our Staff
Our personal attention and quality care would not be possible without a great staff. We attract conscientious, caring employees dedicated to provide the one-on-one, custom services our patients expect and deserve. In order to achieve this aim we have developed a highly skilled and motivated workforce through training and personal development programs.

While the world around Cox Pharmacy has changed since the early days of selling drugs out of a log cabin, the pharmacy has retained the old-fashion feeling of a close-knit family business. We strive to give our patients the same courteous service now that their parents, grandparents and great grandparents have always expected.
